Casino Wants Money Back Recently I came across the following headline, " Gamblers cash in on Caesars casino error." This was in the August 4th Louisville Courier Journal. Let me quote the newspaper article, "The Caesars Indiana casino lost nearly half a million dollars over two days last month on one slot machine that had been incorrectly set to give players credit for 10 times the amount of money they put into it." It seems the modern day slot machine is really a computerized ATM machine. People put money on a casino debt card and use that card on the machines they intend to play. Therefore, a person with a $100 card could walk up to this machine and the machine would give them $1000 credit. In return the person could then cash in the $1000.The article went on to explain one couple decided to have a race to see which one could win the most money. The husband sat at a regular slot machine and the wife sat at the malfunctioning machine. They quickly realized what was going on. Apparently a lot of people had discovered this little gold mine. However, the couple decided to tell the manger what was going on. I bet (no pun intended) a lot of people were upset with them. Besides being surprised at the couple for doing the right thing and telling the casino, I was surprised by the casino itself. They are now in the process of trying to recover the lost money back. Anyone that has watched Ocean’s 11 knows these gambling places have cameras all over the place. They have pictures of those that played on this "play and win" machine. However, the article goes on to explain that the casino may not have any legal right to the money since it was their mistake. The primary lesson is gambling is about greed. Let those that argue "I just do it for fun" explain why they never give back what they won. A person may occasionally win a few bucks but they will eventually lose their shirt. The casino’s have this thing rigged so they are going to win in the long run. Think about this before you ever decide to gamble. D.T. |
