Dangers of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ" (2 Corinthians 10.3-5). The writer speaks of a war that has been and continues to be waged every day. It is not a war with guns, tanks, and knives; but a war that is spiritual in nature. It consists of those opposed to the very will of God. One danger we face as Christians is being lulled to sleep and thinking the war has either been won or no longer exists. The last twenty years we have seen the word of God trampled on and ridiculed. States now support and use gambling as a means of raising revenue. Homosexual marriages are now legal in at least five states. Satan and his army have won a lot of battles. Many of those battles were won because Christians refused to stand up against sin. Perhaps we have not read what the Apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians 5.11, "And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them." (Emphasis mine D.T.) There are two parts to Paul's instructions. The first is to not join in with, participate with, or approve of those engaging in sin. The second part is to "expose them." Here's what Colly Caldwell wrote in his commentary on Ephesians: "Withdrawal from these sins is not enough, however. God's children cannot be neutral in the spiritual battle against all such sins. Nor can we compromise ourselves by simply avoiding them. We must reprove them, exposing them in both our words and in our lives. Our lives should be a standing rebuke to all ungodliness, disgracing it and putting those who live in it to shame. We should become able in word to so convince evil men of their error that we will silence the offender. We should convict the evil-doer by turning the light on his deeds." Truth Commentaries, Ephesians, page 242. This last week I received an email talking about the dangers of the "Employment Non-Discrimination Act" otherwise called the ENDA. This is a law before Congress that seeks to protect homosexuals and others in the business world. The phrase "sexual orientation" is not defined in the bill; which means it leaves up to the Government the job of defining the phrase. According to the American Psychiatric Association (APA) there are 30 different sexual orientations. They include homosexuality, prostitution, pedophilia, trans-genderism, incest, voyeurism, and a host of other activities. Religious organizations are supposed to be exempt from this law but that may change. However, if you own a business, rent an apartment, have employees; you are subject to this law. Which means that if a cross dresser wants to rent an apartment or apply for a job, you cannot reject them based on their lifestyle. It would also ensure homosexual marriage in every state. As Christians we are to teach against sin and fight the good fight. Let us remember the words of the Apostles as they were threatened by the Jewish leaders, "We ought to obey God rather than men" (Acts 5.29). --Dennis Tucker |
