In the December 11, 2007, Messenger-Inquirer, ran an article " Experts: People evolving at faster clip". I wrote a 250 word response to the article for the newspaper. But this subject deserves a more thorough examination. The following is what I wish I could have written for the paper.Evolutionist Are Still Getting It Wrong In the article, Experts: People evolving at faster clip a number of fallacies in the theory of evolution is mentioned. First, the change in human DNA is changing at a faster rate than scientist had thought would happen. "I was raised with the belief that modern humans showed up 40,000 to 50,000 years ago and haven’t changed" said Henry C. Harpending, an anthropologist at the University of Utah. Anyone familiar with evolution is aware of the millions and millions of years required for life to evolve. Why? Because life springing from non-living material is impossible. To get around that impossibility, they teach that over enough time anything is possible. Let me see; if we took all the materials in a house, put them in a plane, then dumped them from the plane while flying at 10,000 feet, given enough time a house would be formed. I mean if you do it enough times the foundation will fall into place, followed by the studding, nails, plumbing, paint, carpet, widows, and roofing. Who could believe it? The unlikely and improbable may happen if given enough chances but the impossible is just that. If some thing is impossible it will not change from the 1st chance to the one millionth time. One of the problems with the "Theory of Evolution" is that change is not always gradual, but often sudden. Floods, volcanoes, hurricanes, and other acts of nature can change landscape in a matter of minutes. Change is not always gradual, but often sudden. To quote the article again, "If evolution had been proceeding steadily at the current rate since humans and chimps separated 6 million years ago, there should be 160 times more differences than the researchers found." They are assuming the rate of change is constant, the time of 6 million years is also an assumption, and who can prove that man "separated from chimps?" Second, we are talking about change within a species and not between species. We are seeing people growing taller due to improved diet and medical treatment, but we are not seeing a new species evolving. For the evolutionist to have a place to hang their hat they must be able to show evidence of new species being formed. This article points out the changes in a species, but we all admit that people have changed. We are generally taller than earlier generations. Selective breeding of animals can produce desired characteristics in that species, but that is vastly different than creating a new species. Third, mutations are almost always harmful and not helpful in the survival of a species. The article makes it sound as if mutations are good and such is not the case. Fourth, something that was taught as a "fact" a few years ago is now being revised. I always thought facts were just that and would not change. However, evolutionists have changed the age of the universe, the rate of change, and many other parts of their doctrine. Let us face it. Evolution is only a theory and not a fact. If it was a scientific fact, it could be proven. The Bible offers another explanation of the origin of the universe and the origin of life. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1.1 emphasis mine, D.T.). Where did man come from? Life came from a living being. "By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible" (Hebrews 11.3). Evolution says living creatures came from inanimate materials. Which one requires the more "faith"? A belief in time and chance created the complex DNA which we possess, the delicate balance in the universe around us, or a creature that designed all we see? Which one harmonizes with the laws of science? One is constantly changing due to scientific discoveries and the other has constantly been confirmed by scientists, despite their desires to discredit the Bible. While not written as a science textbook, the Bible harmonizes with scientific facts. – Dennis Tucker |
