General Pace & Homosexuality Marine General Peter Pace is the Pentagon’s top military officer and head of the Joint Chief of Staff. The following quote came from an interview he gave for a Chicago newspaper. "As an individual, I would not want (acceptance of gay behavior) to be our policy, just like I would not want it to be our policy that if we were to find out that so-and-so was sleeping withsomeone else’s wife, that we would just look the other way, which we do not. We prosecute that kind of immoral behavior."His statement is in reference to a 1993 act by congress in which homosexuals would be allowed to serve in the military as long as they keep it private. This was called "Don’t ask, don’t tell." Immediately gay rights groups started asking for an apology, as did members of Congress. General Pace did apologize for expressing his personal views on the matter. Once again we see the legs of the lame are unequal. Freedom of speech has been used to justify everything from pornography, to vulgarity, to blasting religion, but let somebody say they believe something is immoral and suddenly they are told to be quiet. I know this has been and will continue to be reported as an anti-homosexual remark, but in all fairness the General mentioned adulterers as also being immoral. According to the Bible, homosexuality is a sin as is adultery. "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God" (1 Corinthians 6.9-10). The Bible does not rank sin, the penalty is the same for each of the transgressions in the list above. Those people that want to make homosexuality just another life style are trying to legitimize sin. Throughout the Bible, it is condemned. Genesis 19 tells us of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. The Law of Moses condemned homosexuality. Lev 18:22 "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination." The penalty of death is given in Leviticus 20.18. The tribe of Benjamin was almost destroyed due to this sin, Judges 19. In the King James Version, 1 Kings 14.24 says there were sodomites in the land, the New King James simply says perverted persons. There is no doubt these were male prostitutes. In the New Testament, Romans 1 describes the Gentiles given over to homosexuality. "For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. " (Romans 1.26-27) The Bible is not silent on this matter. On the contrary it condemns homosexuality as it does any other sin. Finally, the good General pointed out that the military expected moral behavior from its members. No wonder some people had a problem with Pace’s comments, they do not expect any moral behavior from anyone. Let us remember the military demands discipline and obeying one’s orders. Such ideas are foreign to a lot of people today. Dennis Tucker |
