Let Us Keep Christ in Christianity The above statement has been on the sign outside of the Westside church of Christ for a few weeks. At a time when people talk about keeping Christ in Christmas we need to think of keeping Him in our religion. The problem is a lot of Christianity has nothing to do with Christ or His word. A lot of religion today centers on man and what he wants. People are treating church like a fast food restaurant, make it fast, easy, and low cost. Prophets in the Old Testament often rebuked the people because of their self serving ways. I do not wonder what they would say today. They would tell us to rip up our creed books and get rid of all false teachers. They would tell us to tear down our altars of false worship, i.e. church buildings with “kitchens, gyms, and entertainment centers.” They would tell us to repent of sin and pray that God would be merciful to us. Harsh words you might say! Yes, but Jesus pointed out the vanity of manmade religion in Matthew 15.3-8. The preaching of Christ is not heard in many churches today as they are busy telling everyone they are ok. Worship today is aimed at pleasing the audience instead of worshipping God. As one looks at modern day worship they find Christ left out in many places. We hope you are more interested in Jesus’ sacrifice and wanting to please Him than to leave Him out of your religion. Come and visit us at the Westside church of Christ. If you find something being done or taught that is not in the Bible, tell us. Point it out to us and challenge us to repent and turn back to God.
