Mormonism Examined (Part 2)

(Editor’s Note: Last week we began our examination of the Church of Christ of Later Day Saints. Joseph Smith claimed to be a prophet of God. However, he failed the test given in Deuteronomy 18.21-22. His prophecies proved to be blatantly false and so is his doctrine. The first article also dealt with the practice of baptizing by use of proxy. One person can not be baptized in place of another. Dillion made a very good point. Can a person be baptized in place of another that is still alive? If a person can be baptized for a dead person then why not be baptized for a person still alive? Yet the Mormons do not practice baptizing for the live.  Below is the continuation of this study. Dillion Riecke’s material is in normal print and mine (D.T.) is in italics .)
3.
Joseph Smith made false prophecies. How can you give anyone credit (especially for something as important as being a prophet of God) if they make predictions or statements that don't come true? To list some:

- Joseph Smith said that six foot men, dressed like Quakers, live on the moon and live to be 1000 years old. (The Young Woman's Journal,Vol 3,p263)

- Joseph Smith claimed that Jesus would return by 1891 (History of the Church,Vol.2,p182)

- Matthew 24:35-36 "Heaven and earth shall pass away...But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." - Jesus says that no man would know when the end of the
world would come, why would He reveal it then to Joseph Smith.  Secondly, it didn't happen.

- Brigham Young claimed that men inhabit the sun. (Journal of

Discourses, Vol.13, p.271, 10/24/1870)

- Brigham Young also prophesied that the Civil War would not free the slaves.(Journal of Discourses, Vol.10, p.250, 10/6/1863)

A true prophet of God will not make false predictions or prophecies. God is right all the time. Deuteronomy 18.21-22 "And if you say in your heart, 'How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?' -- when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; shall not be afraid." As noted above Joseph Smith, Brigham Young and other Mormon prophets have been wrong in their prophecies. My Bible says to not accept them as prophets of God.

4. Book of Mormon's credibility in comparison to the Bible' is non-existent.

-No Mormon cities have been located using Book of Mormon.

-Most Bible cities have been located with Bible.

-No Mormon names have been found in inscriptions.

-Many Bible names have been found in inscriptions.

-Archaeologists have never successfully used the Book of Mormon as a guide in locating ancient ruins.

-Archaeologists have and still do successfully use the Bible as a guide in locating ancient ruins.

-The Book of Mormon was supposedly translated from "reformed Egyptian." Nothing on the western hemisphere has been found that even remotely resembles Egyptian. Officially, "reformed Egyptian" doesn't exist.

-The Bible was translated from Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. These languages are taught in today's universities.

-There are no manuscripts or "reformed Egyptian" writings available. None of the "gold Nephite plates" exist to examine and compare the English translation of the Book of Mormon.

-The English Bible is supported by thousands of Greek & Hebrew manuscripts along with at least 2 complete copies of the Bible from 300AD. All manuscripts are available to the public at any time.

There are over 10,000 manuscripts of the Bible. The Bible is the most recorded book of antiquity. Not one fact in the Bible has been proven wrong. Places mentioned in the Bible have been discovered. Nations all forgotten by man, but named in the Bible have been found to exist. One problem the BOM has is its errors and inaccuracies. The time line in the BOM makes no sense. They have Jesus being born in Jerusalem and not Bethlehem . Let those that believe in the BOM bring forth their proofs. --Dillon Riecke
