Opposing Evil Things As Paul deals with the sins of the Gentiles, he mentions their being "Backbiters,
haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things,
disobedient to parents," (Rom. 1:30). "Inventors of evil
things"- how descriptive of so many today! Evil things like abortion,
same-sex marriage, drinking, fornication, etc. In a society where too many
condone these practices, what are godly men and women, boys and girls going to
do? We must speak up and oppose. This won’t set well with the ungodly, but it
is right nonetheless. As Henry said, "It is better to incur the world's
hatred by testifying against its wickedness than gain its goodwill by going down
the stream with it." Amen! It is high time that we heed the warning to God’s people long ago: "Thou
shalt not follow a multitude to do evil;" (Exo. 23:2). So what if
"everybody else is doing it", if it’s wrong it’s wrong. God
desires for us to do the right thing even when few favor it. In truth, "He
that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person" (Pro.
24:8). Why shall he be called mischievous? Cause that’s what he is. Such an
one is wicked, evil, out to advance the cause of Satan, not Christ. God help us
have the courage to be and do what is right, ever opposing evil things. Let us
ever testify against wickedness rather than embrace it.— David McPherson |
