Pre-Christian Stone Tablet Foretells Resurrection

The above title was attached to an article dated Wednesday, July 9, 2008. A tablet found on the eastern bank of the Dead Sea spoke of a Messiah that would rise from the grave three days after his death. It is believed t his tablet is dated before the birth of Jesus. Jewish scholars are debating the importance of this tablet. One scholar said it shows the connection between Judaism and Christianity. Well, duh...

We need to keep in mind that the resurrection of Christ was foretold in the Old Testament. Peter on the Day of Pentecost quoted Psalm 16.10, For you will not leave my soul in Sheol, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.” Jesus compared His resurrection to Jonah being in the belly of the fish for three days in Matthew 12.40.

It should not be surprising that a tablet written before the birth of Christ would contain a reference to the resurrection. Nor is it surprising that someone claimed before his death that he would be raised in three days, as was done by a rebel, Simon, that was killed by Roman soldiers four years before Jesus’ birth. However there was been only one person to be resurrected. D.T.
