The "C" of Christian In Acts 11:26 we learn that the people were called Christians first in Antioch. A Christian, as we understand, is a new creature in Christ (John 3:3-5). One that is born again through putting on Christ is this new creature, a new creature or new man that is following a new standard in God. What is the new standard that a Christian follows? In Matthew 7:21 our new standard is the will of God. We understand that it comes through obedience to His word. We understand it comes through the scriptures in II Timothy 3:16-17. All scripture gives us teaching standards of what is right and wrong. Correction that is needed and instruction in righteousness to God. A Christian is one that is a follower of God, one that is a member or zealot of Christ, one that is a representative of Christ, and a member of the body of Christ (I Cor. 12:20). When we coin the word Christian, we understand that it is one in Christ. We understand that a Christian, one that is in Christ, is one that is God’s own special people (I Peter 2:9). One that is chosen by God, that is in the Light that came from darkness, one that is Christ-like through example and faith. There are many ways of describing a Christian. When we look at the C’s and the many more in the next few weeks we need to be able to say that like the Beatitudes, that these are descriptions and attributes that we all have. A Christian has so many things that through the scriptures we learn that we need to grow and be builders in service to God. In order for us to understand what we need as God’s own special people we need to go to the scriptures and find these things out. One that bears the name Christian is a "C"aring Christian. A Christian is one that has care for themselves and is looking forward to the upward call (Phil. 3:14). It is one that has the care and continues to press towards it. A caring Christian is one that also has a sincere care for their fellow brethren (I Cor. 12:25). A care that wants to be able to help those achieve the same goal that we are pressing for. God cares for us we should have the same care (I Peter 5:7). We need to cast all of our care upon God. When others that are around us may show a lack of care, we understand that God is there (Psalms 27:10). He cares for us to have eternal life with him. He will reward those who have enough care for their soul and will seek God diligently (Heb 11:6). We should have care as the Samaritan did. Jesus used this parable to show love and care for one another. A Samaritan as we understand one that was considered an enemy among the Jews. He had care for a stranger when others wouldn’t. He had such a care that he took to place that someone would watch over him. . Another thing that a Christian needs to be is a "C"onfident Christian. Another way of explaining this is being bold. Having boldness in our work for Christ. A person who is a Christian has confidence in who they are following. One who is righteous is confident in many things: In Prayer (Hebrews 4:16)
Overcoming Evil (Eph 6:10;13) The wiles of the devil Toward persecution (I John 4:17-18) In all Things (Phil 4:13) One that is confident isn’t ashamed of the gospel (Romans 1:16). The gospel has the power to save each and every one of us. It isn’t biased toward anyone; instead it is for everyone who believes. One that has confidence as a Christian knows and has the realization of the strength of God (Psalms 23:4). It is one that fears nothing, because God is with us. Where is the sting of Death (I Cor. 15:55)? I have confidence that if I obey Him faithfully, He will be on my side. If God is with me who can be against me (Matthew 12:30)? Through fear in God there is confidence (Prov. 14:26). One that has confidence is rewarded (Hebrews 10:35). One that is Christian, also understands that there is a need to be a "C"ourageous Christian. Courage is an excellent attribute to have when it comes to being a Christian. There needs to be courage in standing up to sin and overcoming it. This is something that God does expect us to do (Psalms 27:14). In an always changing world, it takes constant courage to place your life in Christ. One that is never changing. Courage is defined as bravery, guts, nerve, or valor. It does truly take bravery now as it did back then to have courage in standing for Christ. It comes through proclaiming His Word (Psalms 96:2) which leads to salvation. We show courage when we put on Christ (Gal. 3:27). We also show all of this today by:
