The Lord's Invitation

Matthew 11.28-30 is often called "The Lord's Invitation."  Jesus invites all of us to come to Him.

Back in the 1970's we had some really bad winters.  1978 was especially bad as we had a couple of big snows and sub-zero temperatures for weeks on end.  In January it snowed 19 of the 31 days.  February followed with snow on 12 of its 28 days.  Grant County had 74 inches of snow that winter.  There was still snow on the ground as late as March 12th.

In Butler County the schools decided they had to open no matter what.  Buses could not travel on many of the roads due to the hills and ice.  They told parents where the bus would be and when it would be there.  It was left up to the parents to get their children to those locations. Some people lived on the main roads and just had to have their children at the local bus stop.  Some lived beyond some steep hills and they had to get up those hills.  Others lived on gravel roads and they had to come out to the main roads.  The obstacles were different and the amount of effort was different.  But it did not matter because they had to get their children to those bus stops.

When you think about it we all have to come to Jesus to be saved.  Some may have it easier than others as they grew up going to church and learning the Bible at an early age.  Others may have steep hills to climb such as an immoral lifestyle or family traditions.  The Jews, on the Day of Pentecost knew the Law of Moses, but they had to leave behind their law and come to Jesus.  The Gentiles at Athens worshipped idols and had to leave them behind to come to Christ.

The key is to come to Him because He has already come to us.  He left heaven and came to live the perfect life so as to be the perfect sacrifice.  We must now do our part.  -- Dennis Tucker
