Who Will Judge Us On The Last Day? Recently, I don't remember who, asked me a question concerning the Day of Judgment. It was a good question and I am taking this venue to answer. They wanted to know who will judge us on the Last Day? I answered that we will be judged by God. They pointed out that 2 Corinthians 5.10 says we will appear before the judgment seat of Christ. So will Christ judge us or will God judge us? I can read of the judgment of Christ in Romans 14.10, But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. " There are also passages in the Bible that speaks of God's judgment, Psalm 75.7; Psalm 82.8. "And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the judgment of God?” (Romans 2.3). Later on in Romans 3.6 Paul asks, "For then how will God judge the world?" Therefore, we can read of God's judgment on the world. At the same time we read of Christ judging the world in Romans 14.10 and 2 Corinthians 5.10. Is there a contradiction or can these ideas be reconciled? I believe the answer can best be seen in Romans 2.16, "in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel." Keep in mind that Jesus will judge us by His word, John 12.48 and that word proceeds from God, John 14.10. Therefore, we see that God judges us through His Word. That word or covenant was established by the blood of Jesus on the cross and He sits at the right hand of God. It is through Jesus, God will judge us. This would be similar to John 16.8 where Jesus says the Holy Spirit will come and convict the world of sin. On the Day of Pentecost, we read of the Holy Spirit coming upon the Apostles. The people were convicted of their sin by the preaching of the Gospel. The Holy Spirit uses the Gospel today to convict people of their sins and God will use Jesus to judge us on the Last Day. -- Dennis Tucker
