Wrong Is Wrong!

By Matt Foster

There is a saying that goes, “there is no right way to do a wrong thing”. Yet, people always seem to be trying to justify the wrong that they do. We need to learn the important lesson that wrong is wrong no matter how we may try to justify it. We also need to remember that those who practice things that are wrong will have to answer for the things that they do! Col. 3:25 says, “But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons”.

Wrong is wrong even if you do not get caught! This idea seems very strange to me, but I have had people tell me that it was ok as long as they did not get caught doing it. Obviously, they had no regard whatsoever for what God’s word had to say. If it is what they want, then they think it is ok. They set themself up in God’s place making their own standard of what is right and wrong. They need to remember there is a God who sees all and will one day bring judgment upon them. At that time everyone will have to give account of the things they have done - good or bad, known or unknown (Heb. 4:13; 1 Cor. 4:5; 2 Cor. 5:10). They can be sure their sins will find them out (Num. 32:23).

Wrong is wrong even if it is legal! The governments are ordained of God and must get their authority from God (Rom. 13:1-7). It is sad to see those in such positions abuse their authority and pass laws contrary to the will of God. Or to see them do nothing about things that are wrong and are being practiced through out the land over which they reign (Prov. 31:4-5). Gambling, drinking, abortion, adultery, homosexuality may be legal but that does not make them right. Those who practice such things will be found un-worthy for heaven because of the wrongs that they have done (1Cor. 6:9-10).

Wrong is wrong even if it is for a good cause! The end does not justify the means. Paul said that some slanderously claimed that he taught it was ok to do wrong as long as good came from it (Romans 3:8). He clearly tells us that this is a lie. He would never make such a claim. He taught that we should do good that good may come. Do all by Christ’s authority (Col. 3:17). If Christ has not authorized it, we must not do it; even if, we think there may be some good come from it. We have people and churches all across this land who think that if good will result from something they do then that makes it right to do it. Maybe they need to have a little talk with Uzza about this matter (1 Chronicles 13:6-10).

Wrong is wrong even if everyone else is doing it. Parents often use the saying, “if they jumped off a cliff would you?” This is an important lesson for us to learn. Let us not follow a multitude to do evil (Exodus 23:2).

Wrong is wrong regardless of who is doing it. We must remember God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34). It does not matter if it is good old brother so and so , wrong is still wrong. We need to learn not to think of men above what is written (1 Cor. 4:6).

Wrong is wrong even if you think it is right. Today it is common to hear people say “I don’t see anything wrong with it”; while we are trying to teach them the truth of God’s word. If it does not say it is wrong in black and white or better yet in red, then it is not wrong in their way of thinking. The bible does not have to specify everything as a “thou shalt not” for it to be wrong. The bible does not say thou shalt not have an abortion; but it does say, thou shalt not shed innocent blood. Abortion is wrong even though it does not specifically mention abortion. Just because many think they have the right to do what ever they want, as long as, it is not specifically forbidden, this will not change the fact that it is wrong. One day they shall stand before God and have to answer for the wrong they have done. Pro 14:12 says, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

“There is no right way to do a wrong thing.” Wrong is always wrong. None of us are perfect. We have all done wrong at one time or another (Rom. 3:23). But God has given to us a means of forgiveness for the wrongs we have done. We can be redeemed by the precious blood of the Lamb of God (1 Pet. 1:18-20). To do so one must obey the gospel of Christ by believing He is the Son of God, repenting of your sins, confessing Him as Christ before men, and being baptized for the forgiveness of your sins (Acts 2:38), and living a life of faithful service to Him (Romans 6). If you have been doing wrong, why not start doing right today?
