B) How to overcome depression
Alleviate true guilt through forgiveness Sin is a hard master, Ps. 32.3-4 All of this changed when David confessed his sin, Ps. 32.5. In forgiveness the debt and burden of sin is removed from us – remember the ice skater that fell in his first race, he fell the next race in the next Olympics. How could be have done that twice? The burden of falling was to heavy for him to handle. Change your feelings by changing your behavior, Genesis 4.6-7 Things will not change without some changes in you Don’t just expect to wake up one day and all is good Get your mind off yourself and on to others, Phil. 2.4 Depression is often self centeredness, concentration too much on one’s self. A lack of consideration of others Get rid of grudges daily, Ephesians 4.26 Depression is often anger turned inward Either anger at ourselves or at others Take care of yourself Get adequate rest, eat a balanced diet, 1 Kings 19.3-8 Go to doctor, the sick need a physician, Mark 2.17 Develop close relationships, Proverbs 18.24; 27.17 Have someone you can talk to, people you can cry and laugh with, Romans 12.15 Get closer to God Use prayer to ask for help and express yourself, 1 Thess. 5.16 Read your Bible, 1 Peter 2.2 Keep a close reign on your thoughts, Phil. 4.8 We get carried away with problems, imagine things, and worry ourselves to death. There is a reason we are to take life one day at a time, it is all we can handle. Conclusion: In Christ there is hope, forgiveness, love, power, etc. In Christ we are not alone, Matthew 11.28 – 30.
