Eunice, A Mother That Cared 2 Timothy 1.3-5 Introduction:
Mom’s tend to be taken for granted but severely missed. God recognized the
vital role of moms. Exodus 20.12 says
to honor your father and mother. Timothy
was blessed to have godly mother. She was not perfect but she was his mom. She
was not sinless but she was a saint. She was not superhuman but she was a super
mom. There is a difference between a “mother” and a woman that gives birth
to a child. I)
A Mother is… A)
A person that loves, Titus 2.4 1.
She learns to love her husband and her children. 2.
You know you are a loving mother when…
a. Your son comes home from college & has rented a U-haul trailer to
carry the dirty clothes he wants you to wash
b. You have an assortment of 17 handmade clay ashtrays, and no one in
your family smokes
c. Your three year old calls you into the bathroom to retrieve the Star
Wars soldier out of the toilet
d. Your freezer is packed with 27 boxes of Girl Scout cookies your
daughter could not sell to anybody else B)
A person that trains and teaches her children, Proverbs 22.6 1.
She teaches them to have good manners, 1
Timothy 5.1-2 2.
She teaches them to be careful of what they say, Matthew
12.36-37 3.
She teaches them to be pure, 1
Corinthians 6.19-20 4.
She teaches them to respect proper authority, Eph.
6.1 5.
She teaches them to choose their friends carefully, Proverbs
1.10 C)
A person that helps her children grow as Christ grew, Luke 2.52 1.
She wants her children to grow mentally and physically. 2.
She wants her children to grow socially and spiritually. D)
A homemaker, Titus 2.5 1.
She makes the home a place for her family to serve God 2.
She makes her home a place for rearing her children. E)
A person that remembers 1.
She remembers you when you were in her belly. 2.
She remembers your first steps, day of school, date, broken heart, night out of
the house. F)
A person that accepts the fact that doing her job well means that you will grow
up and leave G)
A person that has accepted the hardest job in the world (and realize it is the
most important job in the world). 1.
Starts out with birth pains and goes down hill from there. 2.
Yet she is up to the task because if she follows in the footsteps of other godly
women like Eunice. II)
Eunice was a God fearing mother A)
She was a lover of God, Deut. 6.4-5 1.
She understood the conclusion of the whole matter, Ecc.
13.12 2.
Don’t get caught up in things that don’t matter in the long run. B)
She was a worshipper of God, Matthew 4.10 1.
Lystra was an idolatrous city. In Acts 14
the people of Lystra wanted to worship Paul and Barnabas. 2.
Before she could teach Timothy she had to have been following God. C)
She taught Timothy God’s word, 2 Timothy 3.14-15 1.
She respected God’s word and it caught on with Timothy. 2.
How important is your children’s soul? Important enough to get make sure your
children have their Bible studies on Saturday night; to get up early on Sunday
morning; to come to services on Sunday and Wednesday night; to talk to them and
ask what they have been studying? D)
Eunice was a mother that overcame difficulties 1.
She apparently was a Christian married to a non-Christian, Acts 16.1 2.
She set a worthy example before her son
a. Modesty, studying God’s word, righteous living, doing good works. Conclusion:
She was a mother whose influence has never been forgotten. She helped Timothy to
become the man he was. Moms you can be rearing a preacher, or wife of a
preacher; an elder or deacon, etc. The hand that rocks the cradle rules the
world. |
