He Has Done All Things Well Mark 7.31-37 Introduction: Mark’s Gospel was written stressing the servitude and power of Jesus. Most likely its intended audience was Gentile Christians. To encourage them to strive to be faithful and not get discouraged by persecution and rejection. I want to focus on the phrase in verse 37, "He has done all things well." The crowd was impressed because Jesus had not and did not fail at what He came to do. I) Jesus Performed Miracles Well A) His miracles range from the small, dealing with one person, to large, calming of the sea. 1. Some miracles proved Jesus had power over the physical realm we live in. a. He turned water into wine, John 2.7-10 b. He calmed the sea, Mark 4.35-41 2. Some miracles proved Jesus power over Satan a. At Capernaum, Jesus met a man with an unclean spirit; Jesus rebuked the demon and cast it out of the man. Mark 1.27 b. Probably one of the best remembered times was at the country of Gadarenes. This was an area, of Gergesa, mainly a Gentile area. This was the time a man was possessed by a Legion of demons and Jesus cast them into a herd of swine, Mark 5.1-13. 2. Some miracles proved Jesus’ power over death a. He raised Jarius’ daughter, Mark 5.22-23, 38-42.. b. Raised Lazarus, John 11.38-44 3. Power over sin a. He forgave a man of his sins, Mark 2 b. Woman was forgiven of her sins, Luke 7.48 B) Not one time did Jesus fail, He did all things well. 1. Words such as amazed, astonished, marveled, are used to describe the crowds reaction to these events. II) Jesus Taught The Word of God Well A) On various occasions people came to Jesus with a question and He responded with the Scriptures. 1. What is written, or what saith the scriptures. 2. Jesus used the scriptures to answer satan when He was tempted, Matthew 4. B). There were times Jewish leaders came testing Jesus. 1. I counted five separate occasions where the phrase "testing Him" is used in the Gospels. Each time Jesus answered them well. 2. Jesus was questioned about His authority, He responded by baffling the Jewish leaders with His own question: the baptism of John, from heaven or men? Mark 11.30-33 C) No man ever taught or spoke like Jesus, John 7.46; He did all things well.1. At the end of the Sermon on the Mount the people responded, He taught as one having authority, Matthew 7.28-29 III) Jesus Lived A Sinless Life A) There is a difference in being accused of sin and actually sinning. 1. Hebrews 4.15 though He was tempted yet He did not sin. 2. His critics could not charge Jesus with sin and prove it. B) WWJD- He did all things well 1. He provided the proper example of humility, submitting to the will of God, resisting Satan. Hebrews 12.3-4 2. Jesus would not sin or justify sin. IV) Jesus Died On The Cross Well A) As sheep lead to the slaughter, Isaiah 53.4-9 1. They spat on Jesus, beat Him, put a crown of thorns on His head and hit His dead, mocked Him, scourged with, made Him carry His cross. 2. The crowd mocked Him and He died without saying a word of rebuke. B) Jesus rose from the grave because He was sinless, Acts 2.23-24 1. He paid the price for our sins, Acts 20.28 2. We have been redeemed by His blood, Ephesians 1.7 3. His sacrifice is sufficient to save everyone that will submit to His will, Titus 2.11 Conclusion: 1 John 2.2 uses the term propitiation, translated as atoning sacrifice in the NIV. How can we be saved? Through the sacrifice of Jesus for our sins. How can I know I am saved? Because Jesus has done all things well. D.T. @ Westside Church of Christ 07.01.07 |
