What Satan Knows

Introduction: In the old TV series “Perry Mason” I learned about hostile witnesses. Satan would be the ultimate hostile witness since he is opposed to God and man. He above anyone else would want to hide the truth from us. Yet he is a valuable witness because he has talked with God, he has heard many sermons preached, seen many miracles, was at the Garden of Eden, and tempted Jesus. What does Satan know?

I) Satan knows God

A) Many profess to not believe in God as they deny His existence

1. Satan is not among that group, Matthew 4.3

2. He may promote atheism but he certainly is not one of them.

3. His servants know the power of God, James 2.19

B) This means Satan knows the difference between right and wrong; good/bad. John 17.17

1. Without God there is no such thing as right and wrong or good and bad.

2. God’s word reveals those things to us and we are to recognize the authority of the scriptures.

II) Satan Knows Jesus is the Son of God

A) His servants understood the power of Jesus, Mark 1.23-26

1. Jesus had the power to cast out demons because of His deity.

2. Another example is the seven sons of Sceva and the evil spirits, Acts 19.14-15

B) This means believing is not enough

1. We hear the doctrine of faith only but what about the demons that believed and tremble? Will they be in heaven?

2. Satan is going to spend eternity in hell. Why? Not because he lacks faith but because he is disobedient to God, Matthew 25.41

III) Satan Knows Just Any Religion Is Not Enough

A) He encourages some religions, Hosea 13.2

1. He does not mind is we worship the creature rather than the creator.

2. He does not even mind is we know the truth but don’t get carried away with it.

B) This means something more than just “religion” is needed, John 4.24

1. All false religions leave man without hope.

2. The binding of celibacy, 1 Timothy 4.1-3

3. False Christianity changes the doctrine of Christ, its worship, organization of His church, purpose of His church, etc.

4. We read of Christians in the 1st century being lead astray, Revelation 2.14-16

5. Only the right religion will save man.

IV) Satan Knows There Is Power In The Gospel of Christ Acts 26.16-18

A) It is the Gospel we have salvation, Romans 1.16

1. It is through the preaching of the Gospel the power of Satan is destroyed.

2. One is not saved by the Law of Moses, just being good, or the traditions of their parents.

B) This means we must obey the Gospel of Christ if we are going to be saved, 2 Thess. 2.18

V) Satan Knows What A Little Sin Can Do

A) He knows that one sin will separate man from God, Genesis 3.1

1. The result of sin is death, Genesis 2.17

2. Satan knew the truth but he lied, John 8.44

B) This means any sin results in death unless forgiven

1. The mentality of “big sins” and “little sins” belies the result of sin.

            a. People talk about sins of ignorance, weakness, and rebellion.

            b. The key is they are all sin.

2. A little  sin goes a long way, 1 Corinthians 5.6

3. God does not overlook the sins we often justify, 1 John 1.5-6

VI) Satan Knows What Missing The Assemblies Will Do

A) He wants us to miss.

1. Missing deprives us of encouragement, spiritual food, fellowship with God and His people.

2. Ultimately it causes us to be weaker and weaker the more we miss.

B) This means we need to be numbered with the saints, Hebrews 10.24,25

1. The assemblies will increase our faith, Romans 10.17; encourage us to do better, and allow us to encourage others.

2. I have never seen a person grow spiritually by forsaking the assembling of the saints.

Conclusion: Do not deny what Satan knows.
